World Press Freedom Day

World Press Freedom Day – A Silent War

Message from Chairman IFDMJ

May 3rd is observed around the world as World Press Freedom Day. But for us, this day is not just about events and statements — it is a solemn reminder of the countless journalists who paid the price of truth with their jobs, dignity, freedom, and in some cases, even their lives.

Even today, many journalists are knocking on the doors of streets, courts, war zones, and parliaments in search of truth. In their hands, they carry a pen; on their tongues, the truth; and in their hearts, the pain that belongs not to one individual, but to an entire nation.

The International Federation of Digital Media Journalists (IFDMJ) salutes all its members and journalists around the globe who continue to fulfill their duty despite facing hardships. We remind ourselves that journalism is not merely a profession — it is a commitment. Writing the truth, speaking for justice, becoming the voice of the oppressed, and questioning the powerful — this is our skill, and this is our weapon.

On this day, we must ask ourselves:
Are we doing justice to the power of our pen?
Are we breaking the idols of fear to light the lamps of truth?
Have we turned journalism into a mouthpiece for the powerful, or are we still the voice of the voiceless?

Remember, a silent journalist is a sign of a dead conscience.
Let us pledge today that we will not bend, we will not stop, we will not be bought —
Because we are journalists. We are IFDMJ!
